Hidden divorces, foreign marriage become the new trends in Saudi marital life

RIYADH (Web Desk) – Saudi women have joined Saudi men in their preference for foreigners as life mates.

According to the Ministry of Justice that the figure of marriage contracts of Saudi men to non-Saudi women in 2015 reached 3,596, while female Saudi marriage contracts to non-Saudi males reached 3,352.

The statistical data stated that the number of divorces among Saudis last year reached 40,000, representing almost a tertiary of the marriage contracts in the same year, of around 133,000 contracts.

Hidden divorces are not recorded in Shariah courts and specialists in the field claim there are many such examples.

Court sources say great numbers of marital disputes lead to divorce, but initially, they often forget the couple of non-talking terms that can endure for several years.

The divorce contracts issued by Saudi courts for Saudis in Makkah region reached 10,345, 26 percent of the total divorce contracts issued by various courts in all regions of the Kingdom in 2015.

Riyadh reached 9,470 contracts or 23 percent.

The divorces between non-Saudi men and non-Saudi women reached 3,686.
